About the NHRC
The National Human Rights Commission of India (abbreviated as NHRC) is a statutory body constituted on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of 28 September 1993. It was given a statutory basis by the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 (PHRA) The NHRC is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights, defined by the act as “Rights Relating To Life, liberty, equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the constitution or embodied in the international covenants and enforceable by courts in India”
About the NHRC Winter Internship 2025
The National Human Rights Commission has been mandated to promote Human Rights literacy and awareness vide Section 12 (h) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. With a view to spreading awareness among University students about the need for the protection and promotion of Human Rights, the Commission has been regularly conducting ‘Winter and Summer Internship Programmes’ since 1998 and 2000 respectively.
Eligibility Criteria
Students who have completed 1st year and are pursuing 2nd or 3rd year LLB (3 years) courses;
ii.) Students who have completed 3 years OR Semester VI of the 5 year course of BA/BA LLB etc. and pursuing 4th and 5th years;
iii.) Students pursuing L.L.M. Course;Mass
iv.) Students pursuing PG Diploma in Human Rights, MA in Human Rights, PG students of Political Science, Sociology, Social Work (MSW), Criminology, Public Administration, Rural Development, Economics, Commerce, Anthropology, History, Communication, International Relations and any of the discipline of Social Sciences would be considered with preference to students pursuing their final year;
v.) Only students of regular courses of UGC Recognized Universities will be eligible.
vi.) Students must have attained a minimum of 65% marks in Class XII and all subsequent Semesters in attended/attending Wir degree programs.

Course Structure
Brief Course Structure of WIP 2024 would be Approximately 70-75 sessions on various human rights issues proposed to be covered to sensitize the interns. The WIP 2024 will include the following:
Classroom sessions
ii.) Interaction with the Hon’ble Chairperson and Members of NHRC iii.) Research project work on Human Rights issues
iv.) Book Review
v.) Films on Human Rights & Discussion – Child Labour issues, Anti Trafficking, Rights of the Elderly, Health and Education issues etc. and discussions
vi.) Field Visits to Police Stations, Jail, NGOs and Parliament House/National Commission for Women / Minorities/ Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes / National Green Tribunal/ National Legal Service Authority / National Commission for Protection of Child Rights/Supreme Court of India.
Rules and regulations governing the Internship Programme:
i.) The interns have to get their registration done on the date of arrival.
ii.) Certificate of participation will be awarded to the candidates on the basis of their punctuality, discipline, participation in the sessions; timely submission of Group Project Presentations & Project Reports, and, Book Reviews.
iii.) It is mandatory for interns to attend all the sessions of the internship. Any application of leave will not be entertained.
iv.) Their daily attendance will be marked in a register/ attendance sheet.
Application Process
Enclose attested scanned copies of mark-sheet from the 10th Standard onwards and mark-sheet of each year and each semester of presently pursuing course and recommendation by the concerned HOD/ Dean / Principal which should be of a date subsequent to the date of uploading of this advertisement and for the presently pursued course.
Incomplete applications without attested copies of mark sheets (10th Class, 12th Class, All semesters of Graduation Course & pursuing Course), Letters of recommendation & SOPs, etc. will be rejected and Applications sent through e-mails/posts will not be entertained. No application will be accepted after the deadline i.e. 21st November 2024 (18:00 hours).

The applicants must not use prefixes Mr. / Mrs. / Ms. or any other such prefixes while filling in the details in the form.
If any discrepancy, such as Marks/CGPA/Percentage is found in the details given in any application, then the applicant will be barred from future programs of NHRC along with rejection of such application.

Award
All selected interns who successfully complete the internship will be paid an amount of Rs. 12,000/- (Rupees Twelve Thousand only)
Certificate of participation will be awarded to the candidates on the basis of the following:
Attendance, Punctuality, Discipline and Participation in sessions i.e. mandatory;
Timely submission of Group Project Presentation, Project Reports and Book Review.
An amount of Rs.15,000/-, Rs. 10,000/-, and Rs.5,000/- will be given as prize money for interns who are placed Ist, IInd, and IIIrd respectively for the Group Research Project.
The five interns with the highest marks for the Book Review will be rewarded in the form of books priced not higher than Rs.1,000/- each.
The top three interns from the Declamation contest will be rewarded in the form of books priced not higher than Rs.1,000/- each.
